The blogs success is usually measured by the amount of traffic you receive. Getting traffic to your blog is not an easy thing unless you are already a very big name or have lots of money to spend on buying traffic. In this post, I am discussing some of the basics yet effective ways of driving traffic to your blog.

▌ Blog regularly.

Update your blog regularly with fresh content and give your reader something to read. Frequently updated blogs will develop audience at a faster rate. It depends on you to decide how frequently you post articles but its a good idea to publish 2-3 articles per week. If you are new, you may have to do it daily.

▌ Search Engine listing and optimization.

Submit your sitemap to search engines like Yahoo!! and Google so that your articles are indexed by them and is visible in search engine results. Search Engine Optimization will help you in getting a better ranking and will help you in driving more traffic to your blog.

In the beginning of your blogging, you may not expect traffic from search engine. So, social media marketing comes into play. Its a good idea to spread your blog's post links in different media like Google+, Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon or Reddit. These are a great way of introducing your blog to audience and making a reader base. Social Bookmarking websites can boost your traffic a lot.

Subscribe to other blogs of your niche and read their articles. When you see a new post, try making a genuine comment there. Most of the blogs provide a facility of leaving your link in the comment section and this will help you in getting traffic. Always try to be first in commenting. Everybody wants their blogs to be linked in another blog. Start from yourself. Link blogs with the same niche as yours. You may drop them a mail telling them about the linking so that they know about it and link you back somewhere sometime in the future.

Don't expect a thousand visitors on the first day of your blogging. It will take time according to your posting frequency, quality of articles, search engine optimization, and many other factors. So, wait before you quit. Work for about 3 months and you will see a good change.
