The first thing you must do is place your best keyword in your permalink/URL.

As you have noticed, while you perform a search on Google for a specific word or phrase, that phrase is highlighted in the URL. Placing your best keywords will ensure a better ranking in search engines.

▌ Blog Title.

Title of your article.
The blog title in addition to URL is also shown in the Google Search Engine Results. You must mention your keywords in your Blog's title to optimize your post.

▌ Meta Description.

Meta description is a short description that you write up which serves an a summary for your article. It is a good idea to write a meta description rich in keywords. Sometimes, the meta description for the searched post is shown instead of the text from your article. Putting a concise and well written meta description is a better idea.

Note: Avoid keywords stuffing. Don't over do it.

▌ Article's Body.

Optimizing your articles by using your targeted keywords plays an important role in your Search Engine Optimization. You should place your keywords in the first paragraph of your post, in sub heading and several times in your posts. However, you must not over do it. Placing your keywords too many times in your articles is known as keyword stuffing and results in a negative SEO. Google has algorithms to detect it and your blog might not well rank ever. So avoid keyword stuffing. The ideal density of your keywords in your must is 2-3% (as written by bigger brands in blogging).

Places to put your keywords.

You can put your keywords in Image caption and alt tags. Chances are that your Image might show up in some image search query and drive traffic to your blog.

You must use your keywords in anchor text in both internal and external links. Internal links are the links which you are included in your own articles while external links are the links on others blog. You can use anchor tags in guest posts, and in commenting on other blogs.
